Hi mgw, I too have a 94 and a 97.
DanaH asks if you have a 97, for good reason. There is no radiator temp switch. Also, on 95 and newer the gauge is driven by computer. Not directly by temp sensor.
On the older cars, up to '94, the radiator switch controls fan. Also, on my 94 the gauge seems to have a wider swing. Previous posts here have mentioned the gauge is directly moved by temp. No fuzzy logic. Saab changed, possibly to allay customer fears of Dreaded Overheating.
FYI On my 1992 I went with matched 82° C. switch and stat.
Not sure about the running rich problem being related to this temp switch. Maybe other temp sensor mounted on cylinder head??
