SRS900S,
Simon S is completely ON POINT. Replace the belt.
I nursed a squealer 4.5 hours home where I discovered the belt was two ribs off the A/C pulley. I think it began when I clicked the "AUTO" A/C button. Fortunately I made it home where I watched tensioner bounce as the belt ran. I noticed a short length of white thread sticking out the side of the serpentine belt. I ordered a new tensioner, belt and pulleys.
Why? Because I have been to this movie before- -the one without the happy ending. I support changing belt pulleys and tensioner at 60K intervals.
I believe you will benefit from fitting a new belt. Two caveats;
1. It is possible the tensioner bracket may be bent outwards, resulting in the A/C pulley belt jump.
2. If you fitted a used tensioner, I would consider replacing it with a new on.
3. I also had to replace a tensioner bracket on a recently purchsed CS that refused to rotate. The tensioner absorbed all the belt slop.
Happy Trails,
-Senor Don
