My 97 was rebuilt at 69k Not beacuase it did anything different , but because I found 1/2 of an approx 2'' Diam steel disc the filter basket during a fluid change. Disasembly showed that the box was in near new condition.. except for the universal banged up edges on the clutch basket, and the 1/2 wear on the pump's shaft ring slot.
Washer was the other 1/2 of the servo assembly ? It was replaced.
Alegdly Audi's used the Same Trans. , only notable bit of info there is that the wear on the pump rings causes pump failure at between 350 and 400K KILOMETERs But then it's only a $1500 replacement on those cars.
Go figure.
In fairness the 9k auto box works 'fine' in my expectations. It does however have a midly annoying habit of always being in the 'wrong' gear when it's needed... more so than other brands. Actually Using drive 2 & 3, not necessarily in a 'sporty' manner but as in making sure the thing is operating in the adequate rev range for traffic, really helps.
Previously I owned a succession of 5 speeders.. NO bed of roses there either, as 3! 5 spd rebuilds were done (2 cars)
Enjoy your new car.
