a poster on the "classic" 900 board over 10 years ago.
"If only Saab would build a new version of the 900. A little bigger, more horsepower, updated suspension and brakes, etc ....."
My reply was that they did, it was called the 9000.
Just like this, the overwhelming response was that the 900 was the last "real Saab", the 9000 was built by bean-counters. it didn't feel like a 900......
Don't get me wrong, I loved my 9K's, (88 S, 2 of 96 CS, 97 CSE (still driven by my son), 94 Aero) just like I loved my 900's (78 turbo, 82 S, 87 CVT). The 9K set the standard in 86 for interior room vs exterior size and weight, hp from a small, fuel efficient engine, and for safety, and the car evolved well. The 97 CSE my son drives is a much nicer car than my 88 was.
But.....
The 9-5 is just another evolution, a much quieter, better riding, better handling more contemporary automobile.
If only Saab hadn't of thought that they had to put the ignition key back into the center console.
