This is one of the very few design defects in 9ks. There is a supposed weathersealer that goes between the sunroof pan and the underside of the roof of the car to make sure there is a waterproof seal and the sunroof doesn't leak into the car. Unfortunately, the material Saab chose is the cheapest weatherstripping available. Its a sponge material with a thin plastic backing. It soaks up water like a sponge and causes rust from the inside of the car on the roof. I had a nice strip of rust on the roof of my car right where the weatherstrip is. If you ever have to replace the headliner, take the sunroof pan out while you are at it and repair the rust from the roof and use a good, alll rubber weatherstripping to replace the cheap foam.
