it's what you can't see (inside) that matters. If it's plugged up at all internally then you may wind up doing the job again. Unless you're really strapped for cash I'd encourage you to bit the bullet and get a new one. Then put it in and forget it for the next 5-8 years. A used one could die next month. Look the used one over and see if you can find a date sticker on it. Sometimes they are left on parts like a rad.
If you do get a used one, check the top hose outlet very carefully for stress cracks. This outlet is a well-known failure point and a break there can well and truly strand you.
Put on new top and bottom hoses and all clamps since you'll have the thing apart. R&R on a radiator isn't hard ('cept maybe for the tranny fittings in your case), just a bit messy. You may need a few bolts and mounting bits. I know I did when I did mine 3 years ago.
