My 9-3 consumes about a half-quart every 3k miles but it doesn't worry me because I know that it does it consistently. It worries me that this car never went through ANY oil at all before. Literally, the level on the dipstick would be pretty much same from the day of the fill-up until the next change.
Most of the time the car had Castrol 5W30, but sometimes it would be SAAB brand from the dealer (Mobil I believe). The Castrol was always fully synthic and I believe the dealer oil is semi-synth. Either way, changes were always done between 3-5k.
