The D. I. does more than deliver the spark. It is part of the engine monitoring and management system. Among other things it detects engine knock.
The black D. I. is for Trionic 7 systems if I recall correctly, and red is for the Trionic 5 system in your car. Black "works" as far as spark delivery is concerned, but the consequences for the engine management system are unknown.
So get a red D. I., keep the black as a spare, and enjoy your Aero.
