It was driving under it's own power... course I wasn't pushing it hard and was barely giving it anything. But under it's own power all the same.

I finally found a thread were someone described a very similar experience but it was a CV and the car didn't move under it's own power. It's either a heavily damaged clutch or tranny total.

I'll probably fix it either way as it is worthless if it doesn't move and there are some great things on this car. My only other option would be to find a 9000 with a bad engine or something but there aren't many out there. There are a number of 9-5s with bad engines but I don't think the later 9000 engines have enough in common do they? And my stage 3 is for T5 and heaven knows I love what the extra power does for these cars.
