Your cable might be OK. The set screws in the balls that are on the cable may have worked loose. When this happen on my '98 my son still had my old CSE. By checking out the exact location and function of the latches on his car I was able to slip thin screw drivers between the hood and the grill to release the catches. It will help if you have access to another 9000 but with a dental mirror you might be able to see exactly what part to push to release the catches (there are two).
