timing chain master link Posted by skibumm100 [Email] (#3255) [Profile/Gallery] (more from skibumm100) on Fri, 9 Jul 2010 12:31:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just a little PSA about removeable timing chain master links. These are required to "roll in" a replacement timing chain w/o taking the timing case apart. The timing chain on the Saab engine is metric. It is a 3/8" pitch chain (or 9.52 mm) but a standard ANSI #35 master link WILL NOT WORK. The pin diameter of the ANSI chain is 3.5 mm in diameter so it will not fit the chain. The correct ISO/DIN chain is a "METRIC 35" or a "06B-1" chain. You will need a master link for a 06B-1 chain. The pin diameter on the 06B-1 link is 3.3 mm in diameter. It may also be refered to as a "British 228/3" chain. You can't get them just anywhere, in the US anyhow. A good place to start is an industrial power transmission vendor. Places like Motion Industries, Kaman Bearing, Bearings Inc will carry this sort of stuff. McMaster-Carr and Grainger do not carry them, to my knowledge.
