I'm fixin to fix it Posted by Daven [Email] (#290) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Daven) on Wed, 17 Nov 2010 12:26:58 In Reply to: Agree on a welding shop..., Craig, Thu, 11 Nov 2010 10:42:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks to all who offered advice. I am taking steps to have it fixed.
I removed the rear shocks and, using a thin piece of tin from a disposable baking pan, made a template to use as a model for cutting, hammering and welding a piece of 14-16 gauge steel to weld inside the top of the wheel well. To reinforce it from the top I will have a 3x8" piece of HEAVY gauge steel welded across the top with a spacer below to alleviate any pressure on the aforementioned molded steel piece inside the wheel well.
All welds will be done by a professional and all will be bead-welded as opposed to tack-welded the way the factory treated the hock mounts. I could have done a better job myself.
If I can document this procedure at all I will share with the board. Till then, thanks again and best of luck to all of you.
Keep those 9000's alive. Check for rust regularly.
