Take a piece of wire... Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Mon, 22 Nov 2010 14:16:25 In Reply to: It my fuel pump dead?, Mysaab, Sat, 20 Nov 2010 17:32:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Flip open the fuse panel, and find fuses 14 (fuel pump) and 22 (hazard flashers). Notice that on the back of the fuse there is a little cut-out over each leg - this gives you access to the power leads.
Take a piece of wire, and jumper one leg of fuse 14 to fuse 22. No need to turn on the key or the flashers. You should see a little spark, and hear the fuel pump run. If you don't hear it run, that's a bad sign for the fuel pump.
It's not the starter because it cranks. Here's a big question - turn the key to ON, but don't start the car. Do you get dash lights? If you don't get the idiot lights - ABS, etc., then the problem is the ignition switch. That's one thing I left out of the no-start checklist. A bad contact in the ignition switch kills the power to the dash lights. And the fuel pump and the DI. A common problem. The ignition switch is easy to replace.
If you hear the buzz of the fuel pump when you jumper the fuses, and you get the idiot lights when the key is ON, then go to the no-start checklist.
I rarely hear the fuel pump when I turn the key to ON - too many other things going on. That's why I recommend the jumper.
