On my departed 1992 9000 Turbo I had to replace the pressure switch. I tried swapping accumulators (round sphere) with no change in symptoms, namely, very hard pedal. Brakes still worked, but barely - without hydraulic pressure assist.
If I remember correctly, I would remove pump relay and jumper out the leads to the pump motor-proves pump/motor is good. I would then have assist for a few brake attempts, but since the pressure switch was not properly detecting the low pressure being reached after a few uses, it would not turn pump on again.
I did that for a while, until I installed a used switch.
You mentioned you DO get pressure but only for one or two pumps. Not sure, but if the pressure sensor (switch) is failing it may not operate properly at high press point but not on low?
If you need to replace the switch it is on side of assembly, accessed from passenger side. Tough spot, and the aluminum threads on the old one might be very corroded to the steel cylinder body. You'll need a big hex socket I think.
Hope that helps.
