The Saab synth tranny lubricant was developed for the later Saab trannies, not the ZF tranny in the 9000. I agree on the dino oil recommendation.
As far as the HG, I've done this job twice and found it to be enjoyable, not like some of the jobs that, halfway through, I wish I'd paid somebody. I took 2 weeks to do it, which included replacing the stuff under the timing cover and a bunch of other stuff. However, I don't see the harm in re-torquing the head bolts first, to see if it helps. Except maybe breaking a head bolt. I've not heard of anyone doing that, though.
Things I've learned:
1. No matter what anyone tells you, don't "re-hone" the cylinder walls when you have it apart, unless you want the car to burn a quart of oil every 500 miles. You should be able to see the original honing marks, anyway.
2. The head always needs re-surfacing, but make sure your machinist intends to only remove a minimal amount, as removing too much affects your compression ratio.
3. Good time to replace turbo seals, front engine seal, and if you're doing the transmission, rear engine seal.
4. I got my alternator re-built at the time and installed a new water pump.
5. Get lots of small containers (I used 8 oz yogurt containers) for all of your head bearing caps, bolts and cam followers, so each of these goes right back in the same place it came from. Cam followers should be kept in oil the whole time.
6. Label everything as you remove it, using masking tape and a Sharpie. Photos or drawings while dismantling aren't a bad idea.
7. The turbo connections may leak and need a little attention after you think you're done.
