Paul Broeckx,
The start motor was not turning even the click from the start relay was not audible.
- Starter solenoid connection (under 10MM nut) corroded?
- Starter motor dead spot? (Possibly dislodged by subsequent driver egress and ingress.)
After several attempts (turning the key in start position) with no success, I checked:
Battery: in good condition (almost new)
- 12.6 VDC is operating as designed.
Fuel pump: running for 2 seconds (pressurising the fuel system and the fuel tank was full)
- Confirms Ignition Switch, Fuel Relay, and Fuel Pump are operating as designed.
Main relay: clicking
- Confirms coil portion of relay (Terminals 85 thru 86) is magnetically pulling the switch arm (Terminals 30 thru 87). HOWEVER, if contacts are pitted Terminal 87 will have no OUTPUT voltage.
Di cassette: OK (buzzing sound audible)
- Confirms power and ground thru DI Cassette.
Ignition (mechanical part and semi mechanical/electrical part): OK
- (Ignition ELECTRICAL switch may be suffering mechanical failure)
No check engine light
Dashboard lights went out (except for oil pressure, battery charging and ABS)
- Key +54 START position switch is operating as designed.
Start cable and connection to battery free from oxidation.
- +30 HOT AT ALL TIMES connections are operating as designed.
No loose wires.
Etc, etc.
From personal experience, I would replace the ignition switch electrical portion. If there was 12 VDC from Terminal 87 of the MAIN and FUEL relays
during the NO START diagnosis, I would replace both.
Happy SAABing!
