The 3100a is a good scanner. 3140 has more bells and whistles and costs more, which is fine if you need the extra features.

The 3100a comes with a printed manual that explains OBDII systems and the associated jargon.

The only thing I would change would be to be able to extinguish a code without resetting all of the OBDII monitors. I don't know of any scanner than does that.

Also, the 3100a contains no lead. Cheaper units have lead in the cable, so you must wash hands after using and keep away from little children. You should have no lead worries with the 3140.
