Find out if you can from your daughter:
Do the buttons on all four doors go up and down with the "Lock" switch on the center console?
Do they SOMETIMES work; for instance, not when it's cold but when it's warm at midday?
Are the manual buttons on the rear and psgr. doors hard to operate?
On my '96, I had a heck of a time with the doors. Rear door latchworks had gotten very corroded and stiff to operate. That meant someone trying to use the buttons had sheared off the plastic pivot points on the linkages.
The stiff latchworks put too much strain on the actuators for them to be able to work, though they would SOMETIMES work, and sometimes work belatedly, to my surprise.
I ended up having to pull the inner door panels, replace the pivot points, and remove the latchworks from the doors and work on them with solvent and lube to free up all their actions. That work is detailed on here in a post or two by me.
After that I still ended up with some erratic behavior, and ended up needing a new controller. I put one in from I think it was a '93, which had slightly beefier relays than the one in the '96, though the same part number.
I don't personally think the actuator motors themselves are much of a problem.
