2 cans is all that is actually actually required for a fill from dead empty.. $9 a can 'on sale'
YES! one can 'mix' the refrigerants. With No adverse effects whatsoever.
I cleverly dumped the 134A stuff and refilled from empty with 2 cans of Duracool.. and the resultant pressure was a bit on the high side,
2 cans is 'generous'.. it can be problematic to overfill.
Not likely that one could OR should fit more than 2 cans under Any circumstance.. you would just have to bleed off the excess pressure.
Currently MY system has an issue with the wee schrader(?) valve on the Low press fitting on the Compressor.
It Leaks a wee bit..Apparently quite common on older systems.. according to the Duracool Tech support. The valve seal typicaly cracks/ deteriorates after a few open /close cycles.
Which means I will have to replace the valve (source one form a Plumbers' propane bottle :-) and dump the charge while one fits it, Or buy the Duracool 'airlock' gizmo which allows a valve replacement while retaining the charge.. $80 price gizmo though.. to save $20 worth of refrigerant??
I've decided to stock up on a few cans of Duracool 'on sale' and refill as necessary. Likely twice a cooling season for a whopping $20 total and 10 mins of my time.. total.
Beyond the annoying fill valve leakage issue the Duracool works MUCH better than the pesky 134a EVER did. As it Should being 1/3rd! more efficient than 134a.
Recomended.. with caveats :-) Was enjoying it Today, works Very Well .. I'm Happy with it.
