Serpentine Belt Posted by Gene N [Email] (#1094) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gene N) on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 04:34:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the idler pully, the tensioner shock and the serpentine belt on my 1991 turbo this weekend. (The tensioner pulley was recent, so I left it alone.) The new belt I put on was a 6PK2555 Goodyear belt, and the one I took off was a 6PK2550 Continental. What a difference 5mm makes! I was able to get the belt on without the fierce struggle I had with the slightly shorter belt. I suspect the extra tension contributed to the early (30K miles) failure of the idler pulley. No belt slip, that I can hear, with the new belt.
Does anyone know what the offical length is supposed to be? I got the Goodyear belt from Rock Auto, but I think the Continental came from eEuroparts.
