Crankshaft pulley and backfire

Can a slipping crankshaft pulley cause a backfire to occur under max throttle/high boost situations? I have this condition that occurs only when full throttle is applied from a low RPM, similar to what one would do for a reclibration run.
The car is a recently purchased 1991 9kt which had a bad head gasket and was stuck on base boost at the time of purchase. Since that time, I replaced the HG, had the valves ground, the head resurfaced and replaced all of the relevant tminig and BS gears/chains/guides. I have the cam and crank marks set correctly as far as I can tell, but I could be off slightly.
I have checked for other possible causes of backfiring as follows:
Swapped BPC control, and DI with properly functioning units, checked the FPR, the hooter valve and all of the vacuum lines for leaks, installed and gapped new plugs.
The car idles exceptionally smooth, but does seem to accellerate with less zip that I think it should have, but it is hard to say since the weather is so hot and humid right now.
Anyway, I recently replaced the pulley since it was bad and have had no bsckfires yet. Perhaps the jerking that occurs during pulley splippage under load could imact the Crank Position Sensor? Maybe I am just grasping at straws.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
Dan
