To satisfy my own Saab story, I recently bought a midnight blue '97 Aero with 134K on it. Rust free CO car, with an almost perfect interior and A/C that's colder than my 9-5 wagon. Being a fanatic, I renewed the entire suspension to new, SAS sway bars, clutch, gearshift linkage (worth every penny!), and new tires. After driving it all weekend, and then getting into my '03 9-5 Aero wagon, I realize how nice a newly refurbed suspension feels like. I will probably replace the shocks in my wagon now as a result.

Over the past few months, I had to do a couple of other things...replaced the clock spring as my horn suddenly stopped working, and need to address a wobbly driver's side mirror (assume it's loose glass).

These cars are so comfortable, have all the bells and whistles you would need, and are a blast to drive. Local Saab mechanics make it easy to get work done on it, and every step of improvement makes these cars feel like they will run forever.

Check everything on it...from functioning lights, horn, door locks, clunks in the suspension, and see what's been done. My car had seen a sedate and rust-free life in CO, but was ready for a refresh. Expect to do the same if you want it to feel perfect. I'm even debating a repaint since there is a lot of wear/tear from CO sand/gravel hitting the paint, and a lot of chips/spider cracks in the hood from winter driving.

It's a great car....a nice complement to my 5 speed auto 9-5 Aero wagon...

Cheers,
Paul H.
