%#$! abs wheel sensor Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Sun, 2 Oct 2011 12:42:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am in the middle of replacing the left front wheel sensor. As is often the case with repairs on this car, I was forced to cause some destruction along the way. I tried every which way to remove the sensor, but it was jammed in there incredibly tight - I have no doubt that a chain attached to it would have supported most if not the entire weight of the car, if it weren't for the plastic parts. I eventually chiseled and punched out the metal housing (having long since broke the sensor apart), which took a couple of hours. Obviously, I destroyed the plastic sleeve in the process.
My two questions: 1)Is the spacer there to electrically insulate the sensor body from the wheel assembly? After seeing how it's constructed, I wouldn't think so, but on the other hand the only other purpose I can think of is to ease the removal of the sensor, and it did a poor job of that. 2)Bearing in mind the answer to the first question, what should I replace the spacer with? I'm leaning toward high temperature silicone, or should I just buy a new sleeve? I'm sure it's a three to fifty week delivery time, given the state of Saab right now, and it's a non stocked part.
