continuing a/c saga Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Wed, 19 Oct 2011 13:49:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the drier, and it certainly made a difference to the pressure readings, but not the function of the a/c.
Before drier replacement: low side 25-30psi, high side 250-375psi
After drier replacement: low side 40-55psi, high side 150-180psi (ambient 16C/60F)
The higher end of the readings are after I topped it up some more to see what would happen. Before topping up, the evaporator felt about ambient temp, and the low side tube cool. After topping up, the evaporator and low side tube actually felt warm. The high side tube is hot. I don't think it's a problem with the blending flap; I do see the arm move in and out when switching between heating and cooling, and a blending flap issue wouldn't explain why the evaporator isn't cold. I'm kind of stumped, because the pressures don't seem to be that far out of line. On the other hand, I think the system is still undercharged (only a total of about 11-12oz of R12a, equivalent of 27-30oz of r134a), so maybe if it was fully charged the low side would be way high. Thoughts?
