I remember running across an article saying the main operational difference is that the black cassette is about 20% less sensitive to detecting knock when used in the 9000.
On the other hand, there is a lot of field data from owners and Saab independent shops indicating that there is no real-world problem using the black cassette in the 9000. I don't like second-guessing the Saab engineers, though, so found a good, relatively recent used one of the correct type. (Like so many other things you pays your money and you takes your chances...)
