'stupid' is being very kind in IMO. Much as I adore my Aero, and have enjoyed my decade+ driving 9KT cars, over 90% of my ACC experiences lead me to say the ACCs have simply been an INSANE part of my experiences.
I too have wished to rip out the ACC's guts and go fully manual.
My indy even has possible donor cars from time to time...but when consulted on this subject he turns sort of light green and gets a case of the shivering willies...
My 2 cents (well OK, it's more like a few $, sorry !):
The entire ACC system DEPENDS upon one dinky little under-built fan to suck air across some kind of thermistor or something (that is when the silly thing actually works and is not just making intermittent loud and/or annoying noises !!!).
I've asked a time or three here if anyone knows how to circumvent the cabin temp sensor somehow, but have never gotten an answer to that query.
Here in Vermont where we get days with 60F temperature differentials pretty often (like freezing=> thawing=> freezing again), my Aero fogs up worse than any other brand/type of car I've had (except my other 9Ks...).
My 900s and 99s in the 'old days' were WAAAAY better about this stuff.
Now to the ACC itself=>
It's design was futuristic and ahead of it's time, I grant that - fancy, techie and all, but was never actually made to work right in the 9K line that I know of. (Was it better in the GM'd cars, by chance ?)
In all of my 9KTs - despite changing out ACC units, cabin sensors and nobody EVER smoking in my cars, pretty much the only way to get heat when it's 20F or lower has been setting the ACC to ~82F and manually controlling the fan; then shutting it off for a while when it gets too hot to breathe comfortably.
A/C in summer is pretty much the same thing only with 'too cold' vs. 'too hot' and of course it needs to be set at 'LO'.
I suspect that *IF* there was just a way to put something more functional in place of that insane cabin temp. sensor alot of the miserable extremes could be avoided...and for me, using Duracool was the solution to getting the system to cool for real, but the control aspect is just as nutty as ever.
All things being considered - living in the 2nd wettest part of this country must surely tax any car's ability to stay un-fogged...BUT:
Remind me of that when it's around -15F and I am travelling with a window or 2 open about 1 1/2" to help the car stay un-fogged inside; and see if I respond in good humour, or not ?!
Best Wishes to All !

PS: The other insane system was TCS/ETS, but that one has some good fixes discovered of necessity...I guess the ACC was just never annoying enough.
