ok that did it for me! I just registered. Finally.

been lurking for a little over a year and I can't thank you all enough.
I posted a handful of times over the past year. I have also sent thank you's or tried to anyway to people who posted in the past that I found from my searches.

I check on here daily as I'm nuts about my car(s) and love to read about what others are dealing with.

I start with the haynes manual, and if I don't find the answer I park it here for a while, then back out to the yard with the tools and "The Black Beauty". I got the car for a song and am bringing it back to it's glory

I plan to post my experiences in detail with some of the items that gave me trouble.

for now (I'll post this next time ebrake issues come up for someone, like tomorrow, haha):

if you have brake fluid coming out from the parking brake or emergency brake adjusting worm screw(4mm allen)when you tried to adjust it, (lives under the 7mm plug), you may or may not have to replace the caliper. hahaha
I laugh on this because I searched my brains out on here, and hit a dead end. brake fluid, worm screw, no answer, crap. then I broke the bleeder screw. then I broke the easy out off inside the bleeder screw. top that!

If it seems like the worm screw will not tighten or loosen, just spinning round and round, check the screw. as another poster mentioned, its not actually a screw. if it wont come out on the end of your allen key, put some of your slider pin grease on the end of the key so it will stick. or use a little magnet. one of mine was stripped meaning all the fins were broken off! clean the fins if present (they should be). to save one I even took a file to clean up the edges so it would bite. I do the same with my torx bits (never had a set of them until last year!ha). get the crud out of the worm screw and get a good bright light on in that hole and line up the best looking fin you got on the worm screw with the tiny little notch behind the piston. once I stuck a tiny little screwdriver in there to see if there really was a notch. I also squirted some triflow in there just in case. in retrospect this was dumb because I've never disassembled that part of the caliper to know if it would damage anything. sometimes things are not supposed to be lubricated. anyway,I gently traced the circle of the hole inside and sure enough, there was a little bump, so the moment of clarity hit: one of the fins on the screw, has to line up with the notch. I think.

then, apply force onto/into that notch with the worm screw, through use of the allen tool. imagine you are almost gently prying on the screw while you try and turn it. I came upon this from another post where someone talked about pressure and re-engaging the piston and screw. I use a long allen key, bought for this purpose. its a craftsman kit that came with 5 other sizes. it fits on a 3/4 inch ratchet. i think the allen key is about 6 inches long. you will feel it engage again if it is going to work.

I also would work the parking brake or emergency brake lever without the cable on back and forth while trying to get the fins to engage inside the hole. I think with tension on the piston through me pushing on the lever finally did it. thank god.

inside the car/cabin, at the end of the cable under the brushes cover thats part of the center console that you have to remove (dont drop that screw into the abyss), you definitely need that black cap that fits over the nuts that thread onto the ends of the cables. it is one black cap (that I now have 5 extras of from the junkyard), that fits atop both nuts. this keeps them in place and from turning. if they are allowed to move, guess what? Ask me how I know that this can cause big problems. Its definitely there for a reason.

also deal with any water issues you have in your car. you got water coming into your ride? guess where it likes to live (amongst other places)? where your parking brake cables enter the vehicle under the metal cover that you need to peel the rug up for. if you want to keep your rug nice, take the time, do it right, pull the seat, pop the plastic trim atop the rockers, pop the plastic grommets that hold the rug down (I use a plastic tool and pop them from underneath the rug). trying to replace a cable without pulling the seat and peeling the rug up proper is dumb. Ask me why I just bought a "new" rug for 25 bucks (!!) at the junkyard.ha!

I'm looking forward to many, many years of driving bliss. Finally found what I've been looking for.
Mark
