A/C; some happy info. Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Fri, 18 May 2012 23:19:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The A/C in my '94 Aero has always been a bit odd - it came that way and the P.O. (Quasi) told me he never figured it out and since then it got leakier too.
The 1st & 2nd summers I tried to keep it going with R134a, but that didn't work very well at all.
Last summer I put DuraCool & their leak sealer into it and it was better... sort of - and still too leaky.
So I finally broke down & dug up a cheap condensor replacement & installed it along with Enviro-Safe HC12.
Holy cow - getting that condensor out was a BEAR of a job !!!
When it was finally out & it was time to ready the new one, I had to put the pressure switch from the old one onto it.
Uh-oh.
Waaaay down there where it couldn't be seen - it's case was broken open and all corroded looking too.
As luck would have it I had an unbroken spare so that one went on instead.
Vacced it way down & left it overnight all closed up.
Came back in the AM to find it still held the deep vacuum, so I pulled it down as far as it would go & charged it right up.
It took about 1 1/2 cans from empty to good working pressures.
Tested my work by making a nice drive out of town in full sun at 73F.
Cool. Nice & cool.
Outlet temp held ~45F with no time-outs like it's always done.
So now it's the test of time to see if it runs steady & stays charged or needs topping off after a while or ???
At least with the Enviro-Safe if I didn't actually solve the problem yet & it needs re-charging now & then that'll be OK with me; I'll just buy more as it is sure cheap enough.
Best Wishes to All !!!
