I'd be a little nervous about the head gasket to be honest. You may not have blown it completely, then it wouldn't be running too smoothly, but you could definitely have weakened it. Especially if it's the original at 140k miles. Keep an eye on coolant and oil levels for sure, white smoke out of the tailpipe, etc. Overheating so badly that you had coolant shooting out isn't a good thing. Hopefully the head itself is OK.
As for the EDU, you don't need a Tech 2 for anything...plug and play.
