Saab didn't approve synthetic ATF for this trans, so I personally wouldn't risk it. Some, like Sam, have done it and had it work out, but I've had the specified Dexron fluid in my '95 for the 10 years I've had it and it still feels like new at 205k miles. I've been running Dexron VI for the last couple of flushes and all is well. These are synthetic blends I believe, not full synth.
