I had an Audi Fox I bought at 45k (Volkswagen had replaced a burnt engine at 36k) and it was the worst POS I have ever owned, seemed there wasn't anything that didn't break or fall off the car (the day I sold the car the driver's window broke in the down position just as my customer was about to leave), the fuel guage registered 1/3 full when empty and I almost killed myself when the rusted sheet-metal steering knuckle broke when I was crossing a bridge. I had a friend whose father had a Porsche-Audi-Volkswagen dealership at the time and the inside story was that the Fox was the forerunner of the Rabbit, that Volkswagen didn't want to risk its reputation on unproven design features and decided to let the lesser marque take the hits - I don't remember my Rabbits having the tack-welded sheet-metal knuckles. Still, it was a good-looking, great handling car.
