After reading this board for the last 13 years I feel like I have a pretty good idea of common failure modes for most 9k parts. I don't recall reading about anyone having ignition cylinder issues other than being able to take the key out with the car running (this is excluding of course ignition switch issues, which as you mention is a separate part). Could it still some how seize in there - maybe, though I'm not sure how being excessively lose leads to the opposite, but if one wants to talk about preventatively replacing potentially problematic parts on a 9k the ignition lock cylinder would be pretty darn far down on my list. Now I just have to hope it doesn't seize tomorrow!
