1) Trusting a Chrysler mechanic in buttcrack-ville Nebraska's opinion on a 1997 Saab?? BAD IDEA.
2) I have seen exactly 2 heads die on a 9000 in my life. One overheated so badly it cracked, and the other lost the timing chain, and smacked the valves with the pistons. Heads on 9000's don't "blow".
Chrysler guy probably just wants your son to drive off in a new Dart and hasn't the foggiest idea what happened to the 9000; just scaring him and making it sound bad.
Get ANYONE with foreign car experience to look at it, or at the very least, post here what the symptoms are that he's seeing. "My sons car died." doesn't help a lot. Was it overheating? Did it happen all of a sudden? Is it blowing smoke? Does it even run still?
It could be a hundred things. Simplest could be a DI cassette or fuel pump. Worst case would be head gasket or timing chain.
