For quite some time, my 96 Aero with 219K would only barely get into the boost zone, and, if it did, it would back off--kinda chug in the yellow zone. My tech suggested that the turbo unit was bad--there was binding occuring--and as part of his DX he swapped the BPC valve just to double check things. I left crestfallen.

Two weeks ago, I decided to change the spark plugs--and gapped them to a.09 gap--and then ran some Techron through the car, and--MAN!_-what a difference! Suddenly I had some real boost--not perfect, but well into the red if I needed it. Only rarely would I still note a slight hesitation (hiccup), some less than perfectly smooth boosting, and this only when I was soft on the pedal. If I punched the pedal, I was off just great with sustained boost.

Over the last 4-5 days, though, I've noticed a return to past sluggishness and chugging and--just today--when I punched the car, I had the fuel cut off. I disconnected the wastegate hose to the BPC valve and did a road test: Little difference--backing off as before, and, in fact, a fuel cut off occured when I tried a harder punch.

I am really at a loss here. I have checked vacuum hoses--all seem fine.
I had suspected that the BPC valve needed to be replaced when the sluggishness returned--but, now, I am not so sure. I have not pulled the new plugs to check for issues--lean, rich mixture signs. I am wondering if the fault may rest with the 02 sensors failing and causing confusion to the ECU and BPC?

Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? I do have a replacment turbo unit that can be used, but, of course, I'd really like to eliminate other culprits before installing it.

Oh, and one more thing: I have swapped DI cassettes and, when the car was really boosting again, this did not make a difference in what I was experiencing. Things were just fine.

Thanks for any tips!!!!!
