Hello, Everyone
First, thank you for all your thoughts.
As part of routinely changing the oil yesterday (Monday), I decided to try out a few of the usggesitons you sent me regarding my 96 Aero.
First, I pulled the new plugs I put in three weeks ago and checked them. Still OK, although I did notice some oil around the threads of them (and I am not sure I've seen this before). Cleaned and put them back in, reinstalled same DI I have been using.
Next, the turbo unit. I brought up the spare remanufactured unit I have just to compare the alignment/spin of the turbo blades and the tension of the wastegate. I sprayed Power Blaster on all the moving parts of the wastegate on the car and gave it a good series of tugs: It does not seem to be sticking, and it appears to take as much of a pull to move it as it does on the remanufactured unit. Next, I pulled the plastic bellows away and took a look at the turbo blades. I gave them a spin--clear, no problems--and pulled on the unit itself: It seems just as tight and as well-aligned as my remanufactured unit (which has 60K on it).
Took the car out for a spin with the new oil. A slight improvement, but only slight (and maybe this is my hopeful imagination). Still getting boost into mid-yellow but car holds back from going further--but, this time, at least no fuel cut-off when I punched it. Car seems sluggish compared to that first drive after the techron and new plugs--at that time, I could go into the red zone briefly, and the boost was more powerful.
What does techron do? Does it boost octane, hence maybe "helping" a weak DI unit recover lost youth? I am wondering if my DI is just getting old and weakened, as was suggested. I have not pulled off the wastegate hose to do a check on the BPC, but my guess would be that I will not notice a difference, as previously.
So, there you have it, friends. The latest.
Any further thoughts greatly appeciated!
Thanks,
Todd
