this is getting more and more frustrating: my '95 9000 V6 3L with 122K(motor replaced with a brand new 45K ago)becoming a pile of worthless scrap metal. Initially starting was taking much longer then normally - I thought it was a check valve. Did not have a pressure tester, so I just replaced the valve. This did not improve starting time: I primed the system and only then cranked, a couple of times - on all occasions the car eventually started. I drove to a parking garage under my building and left the car overnight. Next morning, with long hesitation the car finally started; I managed to drive maybe 75 feet when the motor just stopped. I looked at the still exposed fuel pump and found the check valve pushed out - the plastic latch simply broke off under pressure. I secured the valve in the pump with a L-shaped metal bracket and a hose clamp, primed the system for a few seconds and attempted to start. Nothing happened, just cranking forever. I even attached an additional battery, didn't make any difference. I then removed and tested the pump relay - it worked properly: when energized at #85 and 86 it closed #30 and 87. I installed it in the tray, turn the key to RUN and read voltage on contacts:#85 was powered, (obviously #86 as well), #30 too (constantly "hot") but nothing at #87. And no click. I swapped the relay with two others of the same number - no go. I tried a direct wire/feed to the pump - it was working. I cranked the motor with that direct power to the pump and still no start.(perhaps not enough pressure?) What next should I do? Will grounding the #86 (going to alarm box)help or would it cause more serious problems? If the alarm box is a suspect -can it be bypassed? How? (like specific terminals jamped)? I am just guessing the #86 under normal conditions is grounded thru alarm unit. At this time I do not know if I have alarm with or without immobilizer. Any thoughts?
I really hate to think this is the end for my Saab.
thanks, Rad.
