One little thing I did to make the O2 sensor job easier in the future is not to put the connector back on that bracket down on the backside of the engine. I just zip-tied it up top to a convenient hose so it's within easy reach. Don't know what the heck they were thinking with that.

As far as your transmission -- really I guess it depends on the overall condition of the rest of the car. I'd say if the car has no rust and is otherwise in good shape it is probably worth it. These days $3K doesn't usually buy all that much in a used car and you probably won't have to ever worry about the transmission again.
