I agree with what everyone else has said, but also suggest that you look at the bushings in the upper "torque arm" engine mount. While not technically "suspension bushings", the torque arm has bushings that wear out and are pretty visible when worn out, i.e. big cracks, and will affect the ride quality with banging when going over bumps.
Note that like what Craig stated about BMWs is similar for modern VW/Audis (starting with the first A4/A6 models) - the front suspension has ten different arms. The eight control arms each have a bushing on one end and a ball joint embedded on the other, the sway bar links have two bushings embedded in them. The ball joints can not be replaced separately, and the only way to go is with OEM (Lemfoerder) parts which are not cheap, but more durable than the other aftermarket parts.
