These are just guesses and as DanaH says, it needs someone to look at it. Shaking when braking is often caused by warped brake rotors, but that doesn't happen often on these cars.
Grinding when stepping on the brake almost always means a brake pad or pads worn out completely as Dana says down to the metal backing plate, and you're hearing steel scraping iron. Calls for new pads and usually a new rotor too unless it's minimal.
That grinding can continue even when you're not pressing on the brakes, if the wear is bad enough.
You can get similar to warped rotor pulsing felt in steering wheel from an out of balance wheel with slush or ice packed in it, but you mention it as more noticeable on days with no snow. Also remember, maybe your problem was there on days with snow on the roads. Then, the snow cushions and muffles most road feel.
As to the present situation, the clunk, I can't begin to guess.
Actually, one guess: Are the tires bolted on tight? Loose lug bolts would be a serious problem, easily fixed though.
Make sure the power steering fluid reservoir, back of engine compartment on passenger side, is up to its mark. If low on fluid you can get steering pulsing, hard steering, loud noises. The cause of lost fluid is usually a failing power steering pump. Makes an oily mess all over that end of the engine and the fender liner. Your car sounds as if too low miles to worry about this though.
