All these decades of dire warnings about air bags blowing even after car is shut off, and wiring disconnected, may be over the top, the Chevy Cobalt scandal now teaches us.
Maybe, just maybe, the feds will now decide they should remain powered for say half a minute after ignition shutdown, against future failures of ignition switches, and against any fool passenger reaching over in anger at the driver and shutting off the key. (An employee's wife once did this - - luckily no harm came of it.)
But seriously Vvack, just make sure you're buckled up, and know the airbag may in fact still work anyway. If triggered by say a temporary unplugging while battery still hooked up. Of, if a temporary but rare failing in the
clock spring wiring, if it doesn't occur again just as you're being hit.
