So it's just leaking a little oil at that corner? Don't worry about it! Wipe up the mess occasionally if it bothers you, but unless you're eating dinner of the engine it's no big deal and doesn't really seem to be a sign of impending doom for the head gasket (which yes, is a massive job). Feel free to try the re-torque as I believe it has worked for some to fix this. The 9k head bolts are reusable, unlike the later ones, so there's no harm there, though I definitely understand a mechanic not wanting to risk it. Buy yourself a 1/2 torque wrench, weird E16 socket you'll never use again, valve cover gasket, an angle gauge (or make one) and give it a shot. Make sure it really is the head gasket though and not the valve cover (very common leak) or something else, and if your symptoms are worse like losing coolant, white exhaust, or coolant-oil contamination then you'll need to consider the full replacement.
