Idler pulley bracket snapped

I was driving back to my house this morning (luckily I had forgotten something!) when I heard a noise which I thought was me running something metallic over on the road. But then the steering got really heavy and the battery light came on so I realized it was a serpentine belt issue. I drove the half mile or so to my house and when I got home I saw that the bracket that the idler pulley is attached to had snapped clean in half.
It appears that this is actually the alternator bracket so it looks like I will have some fun replacing that. So here's the "while I am in there" question. This is a 1998 with 211,000 miles. As far as I know the alternator is original. I am thinking it's worth replacing the voltage regulator at least while I am in there since I assume I pretty much have to remove the alternator to replace the bracket. I can't imagine there's much left on those brushes.
Does that make sense and is there anything else I should do while I'm in there? I'll replace the belt of course and the idler pulley too assuming that is lost on the side of the road somewhere. I'll also check to see if everything is turning freely in case there was some issue that led to the bracket breaking other than just metal fatigue. The tensioner isn't too old, but I'll need to check when exactly I last replaced that.
