A couple of things I have noticed from owning two 9000s and seeing a number of them at the salvage yard is that one of the hydraulic tensioner mounting "collars" eventually is beaten into something that is no longer round and concentric. I suspect that this leads to failure of the tensioner. There are two mounting "collars" one is alloy the other steel. It's the alloy one that has this problem. The way I have addressed this is to turn the "collar" down to a smaller but round diameter and then shim it to return to the original size...this should return the part to dependable status. Presently I have 230K on a tensioner that I repaired twice in this manner. I will also note that I rebuilt the pulleys with new grease at the same time as the tensioner repair.
