It worked fine in the driveway. Today I took the car out for an extended test drive and it was OK for the most part, but at one point I hit a bump and the EDU conked out for a few seconds. Then it came back on. I tried pounding on the dashboard but could not get it to cut out again and the symptom did not return after hitting some more bumps. So there's still something going on in there. We're currently in a protracted heat wave with temperatures most days in the mid to upper 90s and very high humidity, that may also be having an effect.
There are a lot of electrical and electronic parts in the 9000 that seem to respond well to reflowing solder joints when there are problems. I don't know if anyone has tried this with the EDU though.
I was unable to locate the ground under the left speaker to check it. There's a lot of stuff in a small space back there.
At least if this thing conks out while driving I'll know to shut the engine off at stop lights since the radiator fan won't turn on.
