Alert me when someone posts in this thread:

It's a painfully difficult to find all the things the 9000 Aero gives you without spending over $10K. The highway mileage is sensational, passing at highway speeds is thrilling, the amount of useable utility space is silly, maintenance procedures are typically logical with copious online support.

I bought my 94 9000 Aero 5spd (non-TCS) about 10years ago with ~150K miles. Today it has 300K and still a daily driver or my first choice for the 1800mi roundtrip to San Diego.

Buy the cleanest 1994-1998 9000 Aero (or 1998 9000 CSE) 5MT that you can find. I'd defer to one without the TCS module. You also want no salvage titles, no accident repair and you want full maintenance records.

Get a pre-purchase inspection by the best Saab or European Indie (that works on Saabs) and take it from there. Ask them to inspect the gap on the AC compressor. It is possible to buy the compressor clutch (e Bay) for about ~$60 and it's a very simple installation. But I'd have a shop adjust the gap and charge the system.

Immediate maintenance/upgrades I'd recommend:
get a 3" turbo back exhaust stat. The single most impressive modification on my car. Really wakes up that turbo, with minimal, if any, impact on mileage or operation.
Service the control arm bushings, buy new struts/shocks, and get an alignment
Replace the fuel filter and cabin air filter.

Parts are reliably available, but now they're 4-7days away, so plan accordingly.
