Hello,
The drivers side axle is made up of the outer cv joint, axle shaft and the inner tripod bearing. You remove this by removing the big end clamp on the inner driver so that the tripod bearing can slide out and you can remove the axle. If you are trying to replace the seal for the driver you must then unbolt the flange and pull out the driver and flange as one piece. Make sure you carefully remove the shims so that you can reinstall them and keep the bearing preload the same. Then you will need to remove the circlip and press the inner driver from the flange. Then you can replace the axle seal. There is also an o-ring on the flange that you should replace. If you are just removing the transmission you can leave the driver in the gearbox. Good Luck, Bernie
