I know with my cars I definitely have some 'to hell with it' moments but after sitting back for a while I recover and deal with the problems. I wonder if this couldn't be one of those occasion, especially if you have the 9-3 to drive while you're sorting it out. A 9k with the Sachs Sport Chassis and the SAS bars is pretty special and you're probably not going to have a chance for another one. Oil in the turbo plumbing and some lateral play doesn't mean too much (the thing could easily have another 100k in it), it does sound like you need to do the head gasket which I know is no fun, but if the car is otherwise good it could well be worth tackling...
