It has been a very long time since I've done this (1991 9000T), but I think the way to get the extra hand is to clamp the CV joint in a bench vise or a Workmate (Black & Decker TM). Obviously, you can't just crank the jaws down on the joint spline and expect it to fit into the hub anymore. Use a couple layers of leather to keep from damaging the spline and two screwdrivers to pry apart the C-clip. There is also a plier you can get with two flat jaws that push apart when you close the handles that works.
