TheNot removing the head complicates (fiddly to fit T cover back on. But there is small chance of an oil leak betwixt head and timing cover .. as there V little oil there. Your above procedure works 'fine' Real issue is the Oil pan which can be can be a real rascal to drop, even a little bit.
