The 9000 ZF transmission had a weak point caused by driving in reverse long or fast. A rubber lathe cut seal in the governor would fry causing loss of automatic shifting, although it can be manually shifted just fine. Don’t know how many of these cars were sidelined for lack of a $20 in parts and a couple hours work. Typically repair shops would say the transmission would have to. be repaired - replaced for $$$$. Otherwise the transmission was solid and trouble free.
